How to use
Add your JSON
Paste JSON or JSON Lines, drop or upload a .json file, or press Load URL. Try sample loads orders and customers, two lists that become two sheets.
Set the workbook options
Pick the format, flattening, array handling and sheet name. Keep One sheet per top-level list ticked for several lists, or type an Array path such as data.items to use one nested list.
Preview and download
Check each sheet in the preview on the right, then press Download. The file is built in your browser and saved straight to your device.
Why JSON to Excel Converter
- Creates a real .xlsx workbook, not a CSV, with typed numbers and booleans.
- One sheet per list, filter buttons on the header row and fitted column widths.
- Flattens nested objects and lets you choose how arrays appear in cells.
- Runs in your browser, so the data never leaves your device.
How JSON maps to rows, columns and sheets
The converter follows a few fixed rules, shown here with the sample data on this page.
| JSON | In the workbook |
|---|---|
| {"orders": [...], "customers": [...]} | Two sheets, named orders and customers |
| One object in an array | One row |
| "total": 42.5 | A numeric cell in the total column |
| "paid": true | A TRUE boolean cell |
| "customer": {"name": "Alice"} | A customer.name column |
| "items": ["lamp", "bulb"] | lamp; bulb in one cell (default) |
| null or a missing key | An empty cell |
JSON to Excel or JSON to CSV?
Both give you rows and columns, but the files behave differently once you open them.
- Choose Excel when you want several sheets, typed numbers, header filters and fitted columns without extra steps.
- Choose CSV when another program will import the file, when you need a specific delimiter, or when the file must stay plain text for version control.
- CSV opened in Excel is guessed column by column, which can turn IDs like 00123 into 123 or long numbers into scientific notation. An .xlsx file stores each cell's type, so that does not happen.
