JSON Viewer

This JSON viewer shows JSON as a collapsible tree, so you can open only the branches you care about in a large API response or log file. Paste JSON or JSON Lines, drop a file, open one from your computer or load it from a URL, and the tree appears as you type. Search finds keys and values at any depth and opens the branches that contain them. Click a node to see its path, then copy the path or the value. Switch to Table to see any list of objects as rows and columns, to JSONPath to run queries such as $..price, or to Stats for depth, key counts and value types. Broken JSON is highlighted on its line. Everything runs in your browser.

Your JSON appears here as a collapsible tree.

How to use

01

Open your JSON

Paste JSON or JSON Lines into the left pane, drop a file on it, press Open .json, or press Load URL to fetch a public JSON address. Try sample loads a small bookstore.

02

Browse the tree

Open and close branches with the arrows, or use Expand all and Collapse all. Type in the search box to find keys and values, and pick how many levels open at first.

03

Copy paths, query or tabulate

Click a node and press Copy path or Copy value. Switch to Table for lists of objects, JSONPath for queries, or Stats for a summary of the document.

Why JSON Viewer

Tree, table, JSONPath or stats: which view to use

Each tab answers a different question about the same data. Switch between them freely; the JSON is parsed once.

ViewShowsUse it to
TreeEvery object and array as a branch, with item countsExplore structure and copy paths
TableOne list of objects as rows and columnsCompare records side by side
JSONPathThe values that match a query, with their pathsExtract fields, filter items
StatsDepth, key count, value types and sizeCheck what a payload contains before you process it

Tips for reading large API responses

Most big payloads follow a pattern: a small envelope with status and paging fields, and one large array of records. Start with Open levels set to 1 to see the envelope, then open the array and check its length in the brackets.

  • Search for a field name, such as email, to see every place it appears and how deep it sits.
  • Use the Table tab on the records array to spot missing or empty fields across rows.
  • Copy a path from the tree and paste it into the JSONPath tab, then replace an index with * to get the same field from every item.
  • Use Stats to confirm the nesting depth before you write code that walks the structure.

Common questions

What is a JSON viewer used for?
Reading JSON that is too big or too nested to scan as text. A viewer shows the structure as a tree, so you can fold away the parts you do not need, count items in arrays at a glance and find one field among thousands.
How do I find a key or value in a large JSON file?
Type part of the key or value into the search box above the tree. Every match is highlighted, the branches that contain matches open automatically, and the count of matches appears next to the buttons. Clear the search to return to your own layout.
How do I copy the JSONPath of a value in the viewer?
Hover over a row and press the copy icon at its end, or click the row and press Copy path in the panel below the tree. Paths use the normalized form, such as $.store.book[0].title or $['first name'], which JSONPath tools and many libraries accept.
Can the JSON viewer show an array as a table?
Yes. Open the Table tab and any array of objects appears as rows and columns, with nested objects flattened into columns like address.city. If the document holds several such lists, a menu lets you pick which one to show.
Which JSONPath syntax does the viewer support?
The root $, dot and bracket names, array indexes including negative ones, slices such as [0:3], wildcards, recursive descent with .., unions like [0,2] and filters such as [?(@.price < 10 && @.tags)] with ==, !=, <, >, =~ regex matches and .length.
Does the JSON viewer open JSON Lines and NDJSON files?
Yes. When plain JSON does not parse but every line is a JSON value, the viewer reads the lines as an array, one item per line, and the Stats tab notes that it read JSON Lines.
How big a JSON file can the viewer handle?
Files of several megabytes open fine on a modern laptop, because only open branches are drawn and long arrays show 200 items at a time. Syntax colors in the input switch off above about 80,000 characters to keep typing smooth. Very large files are limited by your browser's memory.
Is the JSON I open in the viewer uploaded?
No. Pasted, dropped and opened files are read in your browser tab. Load URL is the one exception: the site's server fetches that public address for you, because browsers block most cross-site reads, and passes the text back to the page.
What if my JSON has a syntax error?
The viewer highlights the line with the problem and shows the line, column and a plain-English reason. Press Go to line to jump there, or Fix common errors to repair trailing commas, single quotes, comments and unquoted keys.
