Ways to use a page's link list
A list of links shows how a page connects to the rest of your site and to the web. These are the checks people most often run with it.
- Internal linking audit: check that key articles link to your main product or service pages, and that anchor text describes the target rather than saying click here.
- Outbound link review: scan the External tab for links to sites that have changed hands, affiliate links missing rel sponsored, and user-submitted links without ugc or nofollow.
- Backlink confirmation: paste a partner's page URL and search the list for your domain to confirm the link exists and whether it is nofollow.
- Migration record: download a CSV of each important page before a redesign, then compare it with the new version to find links that went missing.
- Navigation check: count how many links sit in menus and footers compared with the body text, especially on pages with hundreds of links.
Common questions
Do subdomains count as internal in the link extractor?
They get their own group. A link to the same hostname as the page is internal. A link to another hostname on the same site, such as blog.example.com from www.example.com, is marked subdomain. Anything else is external. Use the pills to show one group at a time.
What marks a link as nofollow in the extraction results?
Any link whose rel attribute contains nofollow. The Nofollow pill shows them, and Sponsored and UGC pills show links with those values, which Google also treats as hints not to pass credit. Dofollow shows every link without nofollow.
Can I extract links from webpage HTML that uses relative URLs?
Yes. In URL mode, relative links are resolved against the page address, or against a base tag if the page has one, so /pricing becomes a full URL. In Paste HTML mode, enter the page URL to get the same result.
How do I extract links from HTML code instead of a live page?
Switch to Paste HTML, paste the source and press Extract links. Without a page URL, links with no scheme or host count as internal and stay relative. Add the page URL to turn them into full addresses.
Why do I see fewer link rows than the total badge shows?
The list shows 200 links at a time to keep scrolling manageable; press Show more for the next batch. Copy URLs and the exports cover every link that matches the current filters.
Is anchor text included with each extracted link?
Yes, it appears in gray under each URL and in the exports. For a linked image with no text, the tool uses the image's alt text or the link's aria-label, marks the row as an image link, and flags links with no anchor text at all.
How do I turn the extracted link list into an internal linking map?
Run your main pages one by one and download the CSV for each. Combine the files in a spreadsheet and count how often each URL appears as a target. Important pages with few links pointing at them are the ones to link to more often.
Will the link extractor check whether links are broken?
Yes, on request. Press Check status codes and the tool sends a HEAD request to up to 300 of the links shown, then shows each status code and where redirects end. Filter by 2xx, redirects or broken. For a whole site, use the Broken Link Checker.
Does the link extractor include javascript and mailto links?
Links that start with javascript: are skipped, because they do not point to a page. Email (mailto), phone (tel) and same-page # links are kept, and the scheme menu shows each kind on its own.
