Instagram Grid Maker

This Instagram grid maker splits one photo into tiles that join up into a single picture on your profile. Choose 1 to 5 rows of 3 posts, from a 3-post banner to a 15-post mural, and pick 3:4, 4:5 or square tiles. Carousel mode cuts a wide panorama into 2 to 10 slides that people swipe through as one continuous image. Zoom and slide the photo to choose what fills the grid, then preview it with gaps between tiles and every tile numbered in posting order, since the last tile has to go up first. Download each tile, or all of them in a ZIP with names like post-01-of-09. The photo is split in your browser and never uploaded.

How to use

01

Upload one photo

Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP into the upload box, up to 30 MB. A large, high-resolution photo gives sharper tiles, since each tile is 1080 pixels wide.

02

Choose the split

Pick Profile grid and a number of rows, or Carousel panorama and a number of slides. Choose the Tile size, then use Zoom and the position sliders to frame the picture.

03

Download and post in order

Press Download all tiles (ZIP), or download single posts. Post them in the order of the numbers, starting with 1, so the picture lines up on your profile.

Why Instagram Grid Maker

Grid and carousel sizes the Instagram grid maker creates

Every tile is 1080 pixels wide, the width Instagram displays. The source photo needs to be at least as big as the whole grid for sharp tiles, so the last column shows the size to aim for.

Planning a grid that lines up

A grid post is really several separate posts, so the picture only works if they land in the right cells. A little planning avoids a jumbled profile.

  • Post all tiles in one session, from number 1 upward, without other posts in between.
  • Make sure your current post count leaves full rows, or the picture will start mid-row.
  • Keep faces and text away from tile edges, where the gaps between tiles fall.
  • Write a caption for each tile, since each one also appears alone in followers' feeds.
  • Use Carousel panorama instead when you want the picture in the feed rather than on the profile.

Common questions

How does the Instagram grid maker split my photo?
It crops the photo to the shape of the whole grid, such as three tiles across and three down, then cuts it into equal tiles and saves each at 1080 pixels wide. Zoom and the position sliders decide which part of the photo fills the grid.
In what order do I post Instagram grid tiles?
Newest posts appear at the top left of your profile, so you post the bottom-right tile first and the top-left tile last. The preview numbers every tile in that order, and the files are named post-01-of-09 and so on, so you can simply go through them from 1 upward.
Which tile size should I pick in the Instagram grid maker?
3:4 at 1080 x 1440 matches the tiles Instagram now shows on the profile grid, so the picture joins up edge to edge. 4:5 and square tiles still work, but the profile grid trims a little off their sides, which leaves small breaks in the picture.
How do I make an Instagram carousel panorama that swipes as one picture?
Choose Carousel panorama, set the number of slides, and pick a tile shape. The tool cuts the photo into slides that continue from one to the next, numbered slide-01 onward. Add them to one carousel post in that order and the picture flows as people swipe.
Will my existing posts break an Instagram grid layout?
They won't break it, but the grid only lines up if nothing else is posted in between and your post count leaves the rows aligned. If you post one extra photo later, every tile shifts one place. Many accounts plan a full row or grid at once for that reason.
Why do my Instagram grid tiles look blurry?
Each tile is 1080 pixels wide, so a 3-by-3 grid needs a source photo around 3240 pixels wide to stay sharp. Smaller photos are enlarged and lose detail, and the tool warns you when that happens. Instagram also recompresses uploads, which softens fine textures a little.
Can the Instagram grid maker make a 3 by 1 banner?
Yes. Choose Profile grid and 1 row to split a wide image into three tiles that form one banner across the top of your profile. Wide photos, text logos and landscapes suit it well.
Which format should I download Instagram grid tiles in?
JPG is the usual choice: it is what Instagram stores, and the files are small. PNG keeps flat colours and text crisp, though Instagram recompresses every upload anyway. WebP is not accepted everywhere, so use it only if your scheduling tool supports it.
Is my photo uploaded when I use the Instagram grid maker?
No. The photo is read and cut into tiles on a canvas in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab clears it.
