Pinterest image sizes
These are the sizes the Pinterest resizer creates. The standard 2:3 pin is the default for most content. Long pins suit step-by-step graphics and infographics, and the Idea Pin size suits vertical video covers and story-style content. Pinterest shows pins in columns far narrower than 1000 pixels, so these sizes stay sharp on high-resolution screens.

Why vertical pins get more attention
The Pinterest feed is a grid of equal-width columns. Every pin gets the same width, so the only way a pin can take up more space is by being taller. A wide 16:9 photo ends up as a short strip between tall neighbours and is easy to scroll past.
A 2:3 pin gets roughly twice the height of a 16:9 image in the same column, without being so tall that Pinterest trims it. That is why Pinterest recommends 2:3 and why blog photos are usually recropped before pinning. Use Adjust crop to pick the most interesting vertical slice of a wide photo, or fit it with a background if every part matters. Very tall pins beyond 1:2.1 lose the advantage, because the feed trims them.
