How to use
Choose unit and amount
Pick Paragraphs, Sentences, Words, Characters or List items in Generate, then type a number in How many. Limits run from 100 paragraphs to 100,000 characters. The Generated box refreshes as soon as a setting changes.
Set the opening and format
Keep Start with Lorem ipsum ticked for the classic first line. Choose Plain text, HTML or Markdown in Output format, a Paragraph length, and tick Add headings or Numbered list where they apply.
Regenerate and copy
Press Regenerate for a different random mix of words, check the word and character count above the box, then click Copy or download the text as .txt, .html or .md.

The standard lorem ipsum passage and what it means
The most widely used version of the placeholder text begins: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat.
It is based on a passage from Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum, sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33, written in 45 BC. In the original, Cicero writes that nobody loves or seeks pain for its own sake, but only because it can sometimes bring a greater pleasure. The placeholder version drops letters and words from that passage, which is why dolorem ipsum, meaning pain itself, became lorem ipsum.
Because the words are broken Latin, readers see the shape of text without being pulled into reading it. That is exactly what you want when judging fonts, spacing and layout. This generator builds its sentences from the same traditional word list rather than copying the passage word for word, so every run gives a new mix.
