Why ADA Title II Checker

Common questions

Who must comply with ADA Title II web rules?
All US state and local government entities and organizations providing services on their behalf: cities, counties, public schools and universities, courts, police, transit agencies, public hospitals, libraries, and special districts. The DOJ's 2024 rule sets WCAG 2.1 Level AA as the technical standard.
What are the exact deadlines?
Public entities with a population of 50,000 or more must comply by April 24, 2026. Entities under 50,000 people and all special district governments have until April 26, 2027.
What happens if we miss the deadline?
Title II is enforced by the Department of Justice and through private lawsuits. Non-compliance risks federal investigation, mandated remediation plans, and legal costs. Documented scanning and remediation demonstrates good-faith progress.
Does this cover Title III (businesses) too?
Title III covers private businesses open to the public. Courts widely apply WCAG to Title III cases as well, so the same scan applies — see our ADA Compliance Checklist for the Title III process.
