How to Add FAQ Schema and What It Still Does

FAQ schema marks up the questions and answers on a page so machines can read them. The FAQ Schema Generator turns question and answer pairs into FAQPage JSON-LD. The rich-results reality

Set expectations first.

In 2023 Google limited FAQ rich results to well-known government and health sites. In May 2026 it stopped showing them for all sites, and in June 2026 it removed the FAQ rich result documentation. Adding FAQ schema will not change how your listing looks in Google.

The markup is still valid Schema.org, and Google has said it does no harm. It keeps your Q&A machine-readable for other search engines and AI tools. Add it where the questions are genuinely on the page, not in the hope of extra clicks from Google.

Four ways to bring in questions

Import, paste or type.

On the Single page tab, use whichever suits your content:

Import FAQs from a URL: the tool reads existing FAQPage JSON-LD, details and summary accordions, or H2, H3, H4 or dt headings that end in a question mark.
Add pairs from text: paste lines starting with Q: and A:, or plain text where any line ending in a question mark starts a new question.
Paste an existing FAQPage JSON-LD block into the import box to load its pairs, which helps when you are fixing old markup.
Type into the Question and Answer boxes, or press Try sample to load three example pairs.

Editing answers

Match the visible page.

Reorder pairs with the up and down arrows and delete extras. Answers can keep simple HTML such as links, lists, paragraphs, bold and italic text and headings. Other tags are stripped, and links keep only their href. Warnings flag a question that repeats an earlier one, and a question or answer left without its partner, which is left out of the markup.

The questions and answers in the markup should appear on the page, and the same wording is safest. Markup that describes hidden or different content breaks Google's structured data guidelines. Copy FAQ HTML gives a details and summary block with the same wording, so the visible questions and the markup stay in step.

FAQ schema for a whole site

One block per page.

The Whole site tab crawls your domain, keeps pages the crawler tags as FAQ with at least one detected pair, and writes one FAQPage block per page. Press Download all to save them in one file with the page title and URL above each script.

Each block belongs on the page whose questions it describes. Putting every question from the site into one block on the homepage creates markup that does not match the page.

Testing the markup

Use the Schema.org validator.

The output can be JSON-LD or microdata, and Copy script or Download saves it. Google's Rich Results Test no longer supports FAQ markup, so press Validate at validator.schema.org under the output. It copies the script and opens the validator, which checks the structure and property names.
