GIF Maker

This GIF maker turns a set of images into an animated GIF, or a small MP4 video, in your browser. Drop in photos, screenshots or drawings, or paste them with Ctrl+V, then put them in order by dragging or with the arrow buttons, duplicate or remove frames, and set a default delay plus a custom delay for any single frame. Choose the width, a canvas shape that follows the first image or is square, 16:9 or 4:5, and whether images fit inside with a border colour, fill and crop, or stretch. Set the loop, add ping-pong playback, and click Make GIF. The GIF uses a palette built from your images for cleaner colours. People make product slideshows, before and after flips, simple animations and reaction GIFs.

How to use

01

Add your images

Drop two or more JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC images, or paste them with Ctrl+V. They appear as frames in the order you added them.

02

Arrange the frames

Drag frames to reorder them or use the arrow buttons, duplicate or remove frames, and type a delay in milliseconds for any frame that should stay longer.

03

Set the size and make it

Choose the default delay, width, canvas shape, fit, loop and GIF or MP4, then click Make. Preview the animation and download it.

Why GIF Maker

Frame timing for common animations

The delay decides how the animation feels. Short delays look like motion, long delays look like a slideshow. The values below are good starting points; hold the first or last frame a little longer so viewers can take it in before the loop restarts.

AnimationDelay per frameTip
Product slideshow800 to 1500 msHold the first frame about twice as long
Before and after flip1000 msTwo frames with ping-pong off
Simple motion from drawings80 to 150 msKeep every frame the same size
Step-by-step screenshots1500 to 2500 msAdd a longer delay on the final step

Getting clean colours in a GIF

GIF stores at most 256 colours per frame. This tool builds a palette from the colours that actually appear in your images and uses diffusion dithering to smooth gradients, which looks far better than a generic palette. Photos with skies or skin tones may still show slight banding.

If colours matter more than compatibility, choose MP4 instead. For flat graphics, logos and screenshots, GIF colours are usually exact because those images use few colours to begin with.

Common questions

How do I make a GIF from pictures?
Drop two or more images onto the page, arrange them in the order you want, set Default delay per frame, for example 500 ms for half a second, and click Make GIF. Download it when the preview appears.
How do I change how long each frame shows in the GIF?
Default delay per frame sets the timing for every frame. To hold one frame longer, such as a title or the final result, type a value in milliseconds in that frame's box. Leave a box empty to use the default.
Can I use images of different sizes in one GIF?
Yes. Every image is placed on the same canvas. Fit inside keeps the whole image and fills the gaps with your border colour, Fill and crop covers the canvas and trims the edges, and Stretch forces each image to the canvas shape.
How many images can I put in a GIF?
There is no fixed limit, but every frame adds to the file size and the memory used in your browser. Up to a few dozen images at 480 to 640 pixels wide works well on most devices.
What is ping-pong in the GIF maker?
Ping-pong plays the frames forwards and then backwards before looping, so the animation moves smoothly back and forth instead of jumping from the last frame to the first. It suits before and after comparisons and simple motion.
Why would I save my animation as MP4 instead of GIF?
An MP4 of the same frames is usually many times smaller and shows full colour, because GIF is limited to 256 colours per frame. Use MP4 for websites and social posts that accept video, and GIF where animation must play without a video player, such as email or some chat apps.
How do I reduce the file size of a GIF made from images?
Lower the width, use fewer frames, and avoid photos with lots of fine detail and noise. Simple graphics and screenshots compress much better than camera photos in GIF.
Are my images uploaded when I make a GIF?
No. The frames are prepared on a canvas and the GIF is encoded with FFmpeg in your browser. Only the engine is downloaded, once, and your images stay on your device.
