This image resizer changes a photo's dimensions in pixels, percent, centimetres, millimetres or inches, and can also keep the file under a size limit in KB. It suits the common case of an online form that says something like "3.5 x 4.5 cm, under 50 KB": pick the 3.5 x 4.5 cm preset, set the DPI, choose 50 KB and press Resize. You can also resize image files for social posts with presets for Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest and YouTube, cap the longest edge for a website, or scale a whole folder by 50 percent. When the new shape differs from the original, choose to stretch, crop to fill from any of nine positions, or fit with a coloured or transparent background. How to use

Add one or more images

Drop, paste or import any common image format, including HEIC, AVIF and TIFF, up to 100 MB each. The width and height fields fill in with the first image's real size, and a live line shows the output in pixels.

Choose mode, unit and size

Pick Exact size, Max edge or Percent. For forms, choose cm, mm or inches and set the DPI, or tap a preset. Use Lock aspect ratio, or pick Stretch, Crop to fill (with a crop position) or Fit with background.

Set output and resize

Keep the original format or choose JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF or AVIF, then optionally tap a size limit such as 50 or 100 KB. Press Resize. Files save with a resized- prefix, and batches come as resized-images.zip.

Common photo sizes and their pixel equivalents

Forms usually state a physical size, a DPI and a maximum file size, while social platforms state pixels. The table lists the presets in this tool and what they turn into. Pixel values for cm and inches are rounded to the nearest whole pixel.

Common questions

How do I resize an image to 50 KB?
Drop the image in, set the dimensions you need, then tap 50 KB under Max file size. The resizer lowers JPG or WebP quality step by step until the file fits, without touching the pixel dimensions. If it still cannot get under 50 KB, a message says so and you can try smaller dimensions or WebP output.
How do I resize a photo in cm for an online form?
Choose Exact size, set Unit to Centimetres and enter the width and height from the form, for example 3.5 and 4.5. Set the DPI the form asks for, or leave it at 300. The output line shows the pixel size, which is 413 x 531 px for 3.5 x 4.5 cm at 300 DPI.
What does the DPI setting change when resizing in cm or inches?
DPI decides how many pixels go into each inch, so it turns a physical size into pixels. At 300 DPI a 2 x 2 inch photo becomes 600 x 600 px, and at 200 DPI it becomes 400 x 400 px. When you work in cm, mm or inches, JPG output also carries the DPI value in its file header.
How do I resize a photo without stretching or losing quality?
Keep Lock aspect ratio on, or choose Crop to fill or Fit with background when the new shape is different. Shrinking a photo keeps it sharp, because the browser's high quality smoothing is used. Enlarging cannot add detail, so turn on Do not enlarge images that are smaller than the target to leave small photos as they are.
What is the difference between Exact size, Max edge and Percent?
Exact size gives every file the width and height you type. Max edge shrinks each image until it fits inside the box you set and never enlarges it, which suits mixed portrait and landscape batches. Percent scales each image by the same factor, from 1 to 400 percent.
Can I resize many photos at once to the same size?
Yes. Drop them all in together or choose a folder, and every file gets the same mode, size, format and KB limit, then Download all saves one ZIP. For photos of different shapes, Max edge or Crop to fill avoids distorted results.
How do I choose which part of the photo is kept when resizing with Crop to fill?
Under Crop position, pick one of the nine spots. Centre is the default. Top keeps heads in portrait photos, and Bottom suits product shots standing on a surface. The same position applies to every file in a batch.
What size should an Instagram photo be?
Instagram displays feed photos 1080 pixels wide. A portrait post at 1080 x 1350 (4:5) takes the most screen space, and a square post is 1080 x 1080. Both are presets here, and they use Crop to fill so the photo is not stretched.
Why was my PNG saved as a JPG after resizing?
That happens when a KB limit is set. PNG is lossless, so there is no quality setting to lower, and the only way to shrink it would be to cut pixels. To keep the size you asked for, the resizer saves it as JPG instead. Pick WebP output if you need transparency and a size limit.
Are my photos uploaded to resize them?
No. The image is decoded, resized on a canvas and encoded again inside your browser tab. No file is sent to a server, so it also works for ID photos and documents you would rather keep private.
