Crop Image

This tool lets you crop image files in your browser by dragging a box over the photo. Move the box, drag an edge or corner to resize it, type exact pixels, or tap a ratio such as 1:1, 4:5, 16:9, A4 or the 35:45 passport shape. Size presets such as Instagram 1080 x 1350 crop and resize in one step. You can also crop to a circle with a transparent background, straighten a tilted photo, flip it, or auto-crop plain borders. Because the crop is stored as percentages, you can crop photo batches too: the same region is cut from every file and downloaded as one ZIP. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use

Load a photo

Drop, paste or import an image, including HEIC and TIFF. It appears with a crop box and a rule of thirds grid on top, the area outside is dimmed, and the original size in pixels is shown under the picture.

Drag the box or pick a preset

Drag inside the box to move it and drag an edge or corner to resize. Tap a ratio or a size preset, or type X, Y, Width and Height in pixels. Set Straighten, Shape and Flip if needed.

Crop and download

Check the Output line for the final pixel size, then press Crop. The file saves with a -cropped suffix, and a batch downloads as cropped-images.zip with the same region cut from each image.

Why Crop Image

Crop ratios for common platforms

Crop to the right shape first, then resize to the exact pixels if the platform asks for them. The ratio presets in this tool match these shapes.

Cropping never adds pixels. If your crop comes out smaller than the size in the table, the platform will scale it up and it may look soft, so start from the largest original you have. Platforms change their recommended sizes from time to time, so check their help pages for anything critical.

Common questions

How do I crop an image to an exact pixel size?
Load the image, then type the size into the Width (px) and Height (px) fields, and X (px) and Y (px) for the position, or drag the box into place. The Output line confirms the result. To crop and resize to a set size such as 1080 x 1350, tap that size preset instead and the crop is scaled to exactly that many pixels.
How does the draggable crop box work?
Press inside the box and drag to move it, drag a corner handle to resize it while the opposite corner stays put, or drag an edge handle to move one side. When an aspect ratio is selected, resizing keeps that shape. You can also focus the box with the Tab key, move it with the arrow keys and resize it with Alt plus the arrow keys, holding Shift for bigger steps.
What size should I crop a photo for Instagram posts?
Use 4:5 for portrait posts, which Instagram shows at 1080 x 1350, or 1:1 for square posts at 1080 x 1080. For Stories and Reels use 9:16. Crop to the ratio here, then resize to the exact pixels if your photo is larger.
Can I crop many images the same way at once?
Yes. Drop several files and the crop box is applied to each one as a percentage of its size, so the region sits in the same relative spot on every image. This works well for screenshots or product photos taken with the same framing. Photos with different shapes give different pixel sizes, unless you use a size preset.
Does cropping reduce image quality?
The pixels you keep are copied as they are, with no scaling. JPG and WebP files are encoded once more when saved, which is normal for any editor and hard to see. The file gets smaller simply because there are fewer pixels.
Why does picking an aspect ratio move my crop box?
Choosing a ratio replaces the box with the largest centred area of that shape that fits the photo. On a 4000 x 3000 image, 1:1 gives a 3000 x 3000 square in the middle. Drag it afterwards to frame the part you want.
Can I crop a photo into a circle here?
Yes. Pick 1:1, set Shape to Circle / oval, frame the face and press Crop. Everything outside the circle becomes transparent, and the file is saved as PNG (or WebP if you choose it) because JPG cannot hold transparency. With a non-square box you get an oval.
How do I straighten a tilted photo while cropping?
Use the Straighten slider or type an angle from -45 to 45 degrees in 0.1 degree steps, and line up the horizon with the grid. The photo is zoomed just enough to hide the empty corners, so you do not need a separate rotate step.
How do I crop a photo to passport size?
Tap the 35:45 preset to get the 3.5 x 4.5 cm shape and position your face in the box. Then set the exact size in the Image Resizer, or use the Passport Size Photo Maker, which handles standard sizes directly.
