HEIC to JPG Converter

Convert HEIC to JPG in your browser, without uploading your photos anywhere. iPhones save pictures as HEIC by default, and plenty of places still reject them: Windows PCs without the right extension, older photo editors, and online forms for jobs, visas and exams that only accept JPEG. How to use

HEIC vs JPG vs PNG

Apple switched the iPhone camera to HEIC because it stores photos in less space at similar quality. The catch is compatibility. JPG is the format almost everything understands, PNG is the lossless option for editing and graphics, and WebP is a smaller modern alternative for websites. Converting from HEIC cannot restore detail the camera discarded, but a JPG at quality 90 or above looks the same to most people.

Common questions

Why won't Windows open my iPhone HEIC photos?
HEIC images are compressed with HEVC, and Windows needs extra extensions from the Microsoft Store to display them. Converting to JPG avoids the problem, because every computer, phone and website can open JPEG files.
Are my HEIC files uploaded when I convert them to JPG?
No. The decoder is a WebAssembly build of libheif that runs inside your browser tab. Only the decoder itself is downloaded the first time, and your photos stay on your device.
Can I convert many HEIC photos to JPG at once?
Yes. Add as many files as you want and click Convert. They are converted one after another with a status and thumbnail next to each file, and when two or more succeed you get one ZIP with all the JPGs.
What JPG quality should I use when converting HEIC?
92, the default, keeps photos looking the same as the original. Values around 80 give noticeably smaller files with little visible change, which helps with upload limits. Go below 70 only when file size matters more than detail.
Does converting HEIC to JPG keep the date and location?
Only if you tick Keep photo metadata. Then the EXIF block from the HEIC, with the date taken, camera details and GPS location, is copied into each JPG. Leave it off when you share photos with strangers, so your location is not included.
Can I make the JPGs smaller when converting from HEIC?
Yes. Set Resize to Longest side and pick 1080, 1600, 2048 or 3000 pixels, or type your own, or use Percent. Combined with a quality of about 80, a 12 megapixel iPhone photo usually drops well under 1 MB.
Is there a size limit for HEIC to JPG conversion?
Each file can be up to 50 MB, which covers normal iPhone photos and large 48 megapixel shots. Very large batches depend on your device's memory, so convert a few hundred photos in several rounds if your browser slows down.
How do I stop my iPhone from saving photos as HEIC?
Open Settings, tap Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG, but they take up more storage. Many people keep High Efficiency and convert only the photos they need to share.
Why is the first HEIC conversion slow to start?
The HEIC decoder is a few megabytes of WebAssembly that loads the first time you convert. After that it is cached, and each photo takes a second or two depending on its size and your device.
What does Convert every image inside the file do?
Some HEIC files hold more than one image, for example bursts and some edited photos. Normally only the main image is converted. With this option ticked, each image in the file becomes its own JPG, numbered -1, -2 and so on.
