Tips for a photo that gets accepted
Most rejections come from the photo itself, not the crop. Get these right before you open the tool and the rest is quick.
- Stand about half a metre in front of a plain light wall, with light coming from the front so there are no shadows behind you. The AI background is most reliable when you stand out clearly from the wall.
- Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression, mouth closed, both ears visible where the rules ask for it.
- Take the photo from about a metre away at eye level, so your face is not distorted by a close phone lens.
- Remove glasses if your country's rules require it, and avoid hats unless worn for religious reasons.
- Use zoom and straighten so the head sits between the red marks, then compare with the official rule for your country.
Common questions
What is the passport photo size in India?
Indian passport applications use a 35 x 45 mm photo with a plain white background, which is the India passport preset here (413 x 531 pixels at 300 dpi). The Indian visa preset is a square 50 x 50 mm, and the PAN card preset is 25 x 35 mm. Always check the current rules on the official portal before you submit.
How do I print passport photos on 4x6 paper?
Choose 4 x 6 in photo paper under Print sheet and click Sheet as JPG or Sheet as PDF. The sheet holds as many copies as fit, for example six 2 x 2 in photos or eight 35 x 45 mm photos, with thin grey cut lines. Print it at 100 percent or actual size, never fit to page, or the photos come out the wrong size.
How do I change my passport photo background to white?
Click White under Background. An AI model finds you in the photo, in your browser, and replaces everything behind you. Off-white, light grey, light blue and a custom colour are there too, for countries that ask for them. Check the edges around your hair before printing, and retake the photo if they look rough.
How do I make a passport photo under 50 KB for an online form?
Set Maximum file size in KB to the portal's limit, for example 50, then click Download photo. The tool lowers the JPG quality step by step until the file fits, and tells you if it cannot. If a portal also fixes the pixel size, choose Exact pixels and type the width and height first.
Is a 35x45 mm photo the same as a 2x2 inch photo?
No. 2 x 2 inches is about 51 x 51 mm and square, used for US passports and visas. 35 x 45 mm is taller than it is wide and is used in the UK, the Schengen area, India, Pakistan and many other countries. Pick the preset for the country you are applying to.
What do the oval and red marks on the passport photo mean?
The oval helps you centre your face. The red marks on each side show the allowed range for your chin and the top of your head for the chosen country, based on its published head-height rule. Zoom until your chin sits between the lower pair and your crown between the upper pair.
Should I print passport photos as JPG or PDF?
The PDF is made at the exact paper size, so printers that respect page size print every photo at the right measurements. The JPG is a 300 dpi image that suits photo kiosks and labs. Both include optional cut lines and let you choose how many copies and the gap between them.
What resolution are the passport photos saved at?
By default 300 dots per inch, for example 600 x 600 pixels for 2 x 2 in and 413 x 531 pixels for 35 x 45 mm, with the DPI written into the file. Choose 600 dpi for a sharper print, or Exact pixels when a form asks for a fixed size such as 600 x 600.
