Why WebP to JPG Converter

Why websites serve WebP, and how to get a JPG

Site owners switch to WebP because it usually produces smaller files than JPG at the same visual quality, so pages load faster and use less data. Many content platforms and image services also convert uploads to WebP automatically when the visitor's browser supports it. That is why a picture that looked like an ordinary photo downloads as .webp.

The file is fine, but some software still does not read it. Older photo editors, some office apps, many print shops and some upload forms expect JPG or PNG.

To get a JPG, save the image as it is, drop it into this tool and convert it. Renaming the file extension does not change the data inside, so an app that cannot read WebP will still reject it. If the image has a transparent background, such as a logo, convert it to PNG instead so the transparency is kept.

Common questions

Why won't Photoshop open my WebP file?
Photoshop only gained built-in WebP support in version 23.2, released in 2022. Older versions need a plugin or a converted file. Converting to JPG here takes a few seconds and works with any version.
Does WebP lose quality when converted to JPG?
A little, because JPG is lossy. At the High preset or above, the change is very hard to see in photos. The conversion cannot add back detail the WebP had already lost.
What happens to an animated WebP in the WebP to JPG converter?
The tool detects animated WebP files and warns you. A JPG holds a single still image, so only the first frame is saved. To keep the motion, choose GIF under Output format with Keep animation on; Chrome and Edge then convert every frame with its timing.
What colour do transparent WebP areas become in a JPG?
White by default. JPG cannot store transparency, so you pick the colour with the background control, including black or any custom colour. For stickers and logos that must stay transparent, choose PNG in the Output format row instead.
Can I convert all my saved WebP images to JPG at once?
Yes. Select them all and drop them in together. Each file is converted in turn, and Download all saves one ZIP with a JPG for every WebP.
Why is the JPG sometimes bigger than the WebP was?
WebP compresses more efficiently than JPG, so the same picture at high quality often takes more bytes as a JPG. That is normal. The aim here is compatibility, and you can lower the quality if size matters.
Is the WebP to JPG converter safe for private photos?
Yes. Files are decoded and encoded in your browser tab and are never uploaded. Only you see the images.
How do I save an image from a website as JPG instead of WebP?
Save the image as it is, which will often be a .webp file, then drop it into this converter and press Convert to JPG. You can also paste the image address into the URL box, which works when the site allows direct downloads. Renaming the file to .jpg does not work, because the data inside is still WebP.
