Save or remove everything
Press Save & download for a copy with your changes, or Remove all metadata for a clean copy with no document information at all.
Why PDF Metadata Editor
- Edit title, author, subject, keywords, apps, dates and language.
- Remove all metadata in one click before sharing.
- Edit custom fields and view the XMP packet.
- Runs in your browser, so the PDF is never uploaded.
The metadata fields and what they are for
PDF readers show these fields under Document Properties. Only Title is shown in everyday use, but all of them travel with the file wherever it goes.
| Field | What it holds | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Title | The document name readers can show instead of the file name | Annual Report 2025 |
| Author | The person or team who wrote it | Finance Team |
| Subject | A one-line description | Results for the year ended March 2025 |
| Keywords | Words to help find the file | annual report, results, finance |
| Creator | The app that made the original document | Microsoft Word |
| Producer | The app or library that wrote the PDF | macOS Quartz PDFContext |
| Created and Modified | Dates stored inside the PDF | 2025-05-12 09:30 |
| Language | The main language tag | en-GB |
Checking a PDF before you share it
Metadata can reveal more than people expect: the author's full name, an old employer, the internal file name or the date a draft was really written.
- Open the PDF here and read every field, including custom fields.
- Press Remove all metadata, or keep only a clean title for documents you publish.
- Keep the XMP packet box ticked so no hidden copy of the old values stays behind.
- Remember that names on the pages themselves are not metadata and need editing separately.
